Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between the SCU Engineering PMBC and the SCU Business PMBC?
HYP Global currently operates PMBC partnerships with both SCU's Leavey School of Business (since 2023) and School of Engineering (since 2025). The Business PMBC connects students to MSIS, MSBA, and other business-track programs; the Engineering PMBC connects students to 11 engineering master's programs — including AI, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Robotics, and more — all STEM-designated. The curriculum, eligible backgrounds, and application requirements differ between the two programs. Contact HYP Global for a free profile assessment to determine which pathway best fits your background.
Can students from non-engineering backgrounds apply for the SCU Engineering PMBC?
Yes. PMBC is partly designed to help students who need to strengthen their academic foundation before entering an engineering master's program. The curriculum covers C Programming, Python & R Data Analytics, Engineering Mathematics, Circuit Design, and more — systematically building the prerequisites required for SCU engineering graduate study. Contact HYP Global to assess whether your specific background is a strong fit.
Is a formal SCU application still required after completing PMBC?
Yes. After successfully completing PMBC and meeting the academic standard, students are still required to submit a formal application through SCU's official online application system. SCU's School of Engineering will issue a Full Offer of admission based on PMBC completion and performance. HYP Global will help you navigate the formal application process and required materials.
Are all SCU Engineering master's programs STEM-designated?
Yes. All master's programs at SCU's School of Engineering hold official STEM designation, entitling international graduates to apply for up to 36 months of Optional Practical Training (OPT) — 12 months standard OPT plus a 24-month STEM extension. This is a significant career advantage, particularly in Silicon Valley's technology sector.
