To support international students affected by F-1 visa appointment delays or extended processing times, WashU Olin introduced an October 2026 Start option for five specialized master’s programs. The option allows eligible students who cannot arrive for the traditional August start to continue their 2026 graduate study plans without deferring enrollment to the 2027 academic year.
According to WashU Olin’s official October 2026 Start plan, participating students complete the same academic content and credit hours, retain the same anticipated December 2027 graduation date, and receive the same internship and career opportunities.
1. Academic and Career Support
The October Start option is an alternative entry pathway for students affected by visa delays or later application timelines. Participating students receive access to the academic and career resources available to students who begin in August.
Same Degree and Curriculum
Students complete the same core academic content and required credit hours as those following the traditional August-start schedule.
Some required fall courses are condensed into a half-semester format with approximately twice the usual weekly contact hours. The timing of certain required courses and electives may also be adjusted.
Students who satisfy all program requirements receive the same WashU Olin master’s degree.
December 2027 Graduation
The curriculum has been reorganized so that October Start students can maintain the same anticipated graduation timeline as students beginning in August.
Students are expected to graduate in December 2027, subject to successful completion of all academic requirements.
Summer Internship Preparation
The program schedule is designed to preserve students’ ability to pursue Summer 2027 internship opportunities.
The academic structure is also intended to support eligibility for Curricular Practical Training (CPT) and Optional Practical Training (OPT). Individual employment authorization remains subject to federal immigration regulations and approval by the WashU Office for International Students and Scholars (OISS).

2. Eligible Programs
The October Start option is available only to programs that can accommodate a mid-semester start without changing their academic standards or anticipated graduation timeline.

Programs Not Supporting October Start
The October Start option is not available for the following programs or tracks:
Master of Science in Finance—Corporate Finance
Two-year Master of Science in Wealth Management
Master of Science in AI for Business
Master of Science in the Business of Sports
Full-Time Master of Business Administration
Flex Master of Business Administration
Executive Master of Business Administration
Students admitted to a program that does not support October Start may contact the Olin Graduate Admissions team to discuss whether transferring into an eligible program is possible.
If space is available, the university may assist with the program change without charging an additional tuition differential solely because of the transfer.
3. Eligible Students
International students in any of the following situations may contact the Olin Graduate Admissions team to confirm their eligibility.
Admitted Students Who Have Paid a Deposit
This category includes admitted students who expect that they will be unable to arrive in the United States by August 31, 2026, because:
Their visa interview is scheduled after the beginning of the semester
Their visa application is undergoing administrative processing
They have been unable to secure an appropriate visa appointment
Students Who Previously Declined Admission
Students who previously declined or withdrew from an Olin offer because of visa concerns or changes to their original plans may contact the admissions team to discuss rejoining Olin through an eligible October Start program.
New Fall 2026 Applicants
New applicants who had not yet submitted an application could apply for the October Start option by September 15, 2026.
Because of the limited time available for admission review, Form I-20 processing, and visa arrangements, applicants were encouraged to contact the university as early as possible. Olin’s program pages list September 15, 2026, as the October Start application deadline.
4. I-20, Visa, Tuition, and Scholarships
Updated Form I-20
After a student confirms participation in the October Start option, WashU will issue an updated Form I-20 through MyOISS, the online portal of the Office for International Students and Scholars.
According to the program guidance summarized in this article, the updated document is generally issued within seven to ten days and will show the revised October program start date.
Earliest Entry Date
The October Start classes begin on October 20, 2026.
Because an initial F-1 student may generally enter the United States no more than 30 days before the program start date shown on Form I-20, the earliest expected entry date is September 20, 2026.
Students should confirm their individual immigration arrangements with WashU OISS.
Existing Visa Appointments
Students were advised to keep existing visa interview appointments whenever possible, as attending an earlier appointment may improve the likelihood of arriving on time.
Students whose visas were approved using an August-start Form I-20 should follow the university’s instructions regarding the replacement document and any required updates to their records.
August and October Arrival Cutoff
Students able to arrive in the United States by August 31, 2026, could continue with the traditional fall schedule.
Students unable to arrive by that date would need to follow the October Start schedule beginning on October 20, 2026.
Tuition
Tuition follows the standard full-time program rate. Students are not charged an additional fee because courses have been condensed or reorganized.
Students transferring from an ineligible program into an eligible October Start program would follow the tuition arrangements communicated by Olin, without an additional differential charge solely because of the switch.
Scholarships and Deposits
Scholarships previously awarded to participating students remain valid.
A tuition deposit already paid will be transferred to the October Start enrollment and does not need to be paid again. The deposit remains non-refundable.

WashU Olin will hold a dedicated orientation for October Start students on October 19, 2026.
Although off-campus housing availability may be more limited in October than during the summer, students can use Olin’s housing referrals and WashU’s off-campus housing resources to explore available options.
