7th Anniversary Series | From One Meeting to a Thousand Journeys: The Story of PMBC
If HYP Global has a defining “origin moment,” it was in the second half of 2019 — when founder Harry Gong met Dr. Oliver Yao, then Associate Dean of the Lehigh University College of Business.

A Conversation That Sparked an Innovation
At the time, Lehigh's business school was looking to expand its graduate recruitment in China. The two sides explored several models, including bringing students to campus for a summer pre-master program. But while immersive, this model was constrained by time, location, and cost.
So the HYP Global team made a forward-looking decision: bring the pre-master program online. This was the origin of the Pre-Master Boot Camp (PMBC) — different from the on-campus experience, but far more accessible and affordable.
To ensure the program truly prepared students for graduate-level success, the team invested heavily in curriculum design and instructor selection, continuously refining the program over time. Within three months of launch, PMBC received applications from dozens of students, and more than ten eventually enrolled and went on to complete their master's degrees at Lehigh University.

From One University to a Repeatable Model
The success of PMBC with Lehigh gave HYP Global its first real industry visibility and the credibility to open conversations with more universities. Since then, HYP Global has built partnerships with institutions including UC Riverside, Santa Clara University, Fordham, and Pepperdine, and PMBC has grown from a single course into a full curriculum spanning math, programming, and business fundamentals.
Key milestones over the past seven years include:
● 2019 — PMBC launches with its first cohort of 14 students, alongside a network of 300+ education agents
● 2020–2022 — Partnerships established with seven leading universities; PMBC's application and teaching systems upgraded to support 1,000+ agents and 500+ students annually
● 2023 — University partnerships expand to 11; the team completes two U.S. campus visits and integrates Flywire to streamline international tuition payments
● 2024 — Partnerships deepen to 13 institutions, with 12+ specialized PMBC courses launched
● 2025 — Partnerships reach 15+ universities, with nearly 200 students enrolled for the year, and expansion into Taiwan and South Korea

Why PMBC Works
At its core, PMBC solves real problems international students face around language, academic transition, and career planning through rigorous curriculum design and genuine teaching quality. The program is taught entirely in English, helping students adapt early to the academic expression and thinking style of American classrooms. Many instructors are alumni of the partner universities, offering not just knowledge but real career advice.
As PMBC Academic Supervisor Elaine Zheng puts it: “Education relies on three roles — the student, the parent, and educational resources. Students bring the willingness to learn, parents provide support, and we serve as the bridge that connects the two.”
From 14 students to nearly 200, from one university partner to more than fifteen — PMBC's growth is the clearest reflection of HYP Global's seven-year journey.
