As part of HYP Global’s annual U.S. university visit initiative, Doris Liu, Admissions Manager for Southern China, and Vera Zhang, Admissions Manager for Northwest China, recently visited several partner institutions including Lehigh University, Santa Clara University, Pepperdine University, and Otis College of Art and Design.

These campus visits allow the HYP Global team to deepen institutional understanding and provide students with firsthand insights into academic culture, student life, career outcomes, and the evolving landscape of U.S. higher education.

This article focuses on one of the most employment-oriented universities in Silicon Valley: Santa Clara University.

First Impressions: A Campus at the Heart of Silicon Valley

Just ten minutes after leaving San José International Airport, we arrived at the Santa Clara University campus.

Located in the center of Silicon Valley, the surrounding area is home to some of the world’s most influential technology companies, including Apple, Google, Intel, and many other global innovators.

Yet despite being immersed in one of the world’s most competitive technology ecosystems, the campus itself feels unexpectedly calm and refined.

The atmosphere is distinctly Californian — Spanish-style architecture, palm-lined walkways, warm-toned academic buildings, and students moving casually across campus on skateboards and scooters.

It quickly became easy to understand why many people refer to Santa Clara University as a “Little Stanford.”

A Small, Beautiful, and Highly Connected Campus

Earlier in March 2025, Associate Dean Romana from the Leavey School of Business had visited HYP Global’s Shanghai office alongside university representatives.

During this campus visit, the HYP team reunited with university leadership and was warmly welcomed for a series of campus tours and academic discussions.

One of the most noticeable characteristics of Santa Clara University is the scale and accessibility of the campus.

The university feels compact, polished, and intentionally designed. Students can comfortably travel across campus by scooter within minutes, and even public spaces include dedicated scooter parking and charging areas.

At the same time, the academic atmosphere remains highly focused.

Students study everywhere — on lawns, outdoor benches, library steps, and shaded courtyards. The environment feels intellectually engaged without becoming overly rigid or stressful.

It is a rare balance between academic seriousness and Silicon Valley’s relaxed, innovation-driven culture.

Business Education and Silicon Valley Employment Strength

Among international students, two of the most recognized graduate STEM programs at Santa Clara University are:

- M.S. in Business Analytics

- M.S. in Information Systems

Both programs are structured as 16-month degrees and qualify eligible international students for up to three years of OPT employment authorization.

The Leavey School of Business maintains exceptionally close relationships with major Silicon Valley employers including Google, Amazon, Microsoft, Apple, and Meta.

These partnerships provide students with direct exposure to internships, industry projects, networking opportunities, and employer recruitment pipelines.

The surrounding Silicon Valley economy also contributes to exceptionally strong salary outcomes.

According to the 2024 PayScale College Salary Report, Santa Clara University ranked among the top universities nationally for graduate earnings, placing just behind institutions such as Stanford University.

Graduates from Santa Clara University are highly regarded among Silicon Valley employers, particularly in technology, analytics, business operations, and engineering-related industries.

PayScale data also places Santa Clara University among the leading U.S. universities for business career outcomes.

Why SCU Performs So Well in Employment Outcomes

One of the university’s greatest advantages is its deeply embedded alumni network throughout Silicon Valley.

Many executives, founders, and senior professionals across surrounding technology companies are Santa Clara alumni themselves.

The Leavey School’s “Silicon Valley Executive Center” and related industry initiatives regularly connect students with alumni companies and corporate partners through networking events, company visits, and mentorship opportunities.

Unlike institutions that rely primarily on prestige branding alone, Santa Clara University has built a highly practical educational ecosystem where classroom learning connects directly to real-world business and technology applications.

This creates a strong “study → practice → employment” pipeline that benefits both students and the surrounding innovation economy.

The result is a university environment that feels highly employable, industry-connected, and outcomes-driven.

Lifestyle, Location, and Student Experience

Before visiting, one assumption was that a university located at the center of Silicon Valley might feel disconnected from everyday student life or commercial areas.

In reality, the opposite proved true.

After meeting with faculty members for lunch, it became clear how accessible the surrounding city environment actually is.

Within approximately fifteen minutes by car — or a short scooter ride — students can reach major shopping centers, restaurants, cafés, and entertainment districts.

At the same time, the university’s location also provides quick access to many of California’s most iconic destinations:

- Santa Cruz beaches for surfing — approximately 30 minutes away

- San Francisco shopping and cultural districts — around one hour away

- Redwood forest hiking and outdoor recreation — roughly 90 minutes away

This combination of academic focus, career access, urban convenience, and California lifestyle is one of Santa Clara University’s defining strengths.

For students seeking a university experience that combines practical career outcomes with the energy of Silicon Valley, Santa Clara University offers a particularly compelling balance.
