The HYP Global × Santa Clara University Open Day in Shanghai was successfully held on January 11, bringing together prospective students, parents, and education professionals for an in-depth exchange on graduate education, industry trends, and future career development.

Toby McChesney, Associate Dean of Graduate Programs at Santa Clara University, traveled to China to meet with attendees in person and introduce the university’s academic philosophy, graduate education model, and key campus resources.

During the event, Toby McChesney provided a comprehensive overview of Santa Clara University’s graduate programs, highlighting the university’s interdisciplinary learning environment, student support systems, and career-oriented educational approach.

The session also featured current SCU graduate students Gloria from the M.S. in Information Systems (MSIS) program and Zoe from the M.S. in Business Analytics (MSBA) program, who joined the event to share firsthand perspectives on academic life, classroom experiences, project structures, and personal growth at SCU.

In addition, Professor Lu participated remotely to discuss both academic and industry perspectives related to artificial intelligence and emerging technologies. As both a faculty member and AI entrepreneur, Professor Lu shared insights into the intersection of technical education, innovation, and real-world application, providing attendees with a broader understanding of current industry transformation.

## Industry Insights and Career Discussions

One of the highlights of the event was the career development and industry discussion panel.

Professionals working in artificial intelligence and technology-related sectors, including representatives from McDonald’s and AI-driven consumer technology companies, joined the conversation to share perspectives on current hiring trends, industry expectations, and evolving career pathways.

The discussion explored several timely and practical questions frequently raised by students and families, including:

- Is the value of academic degrees changing in the AI era?

- Should students prioritize immediate employment over graduate study?

- Will the rapid development of artificial intelligence reduce the long-term value of higher education credentials?

- What kinds of skills and experiences will remain most important in future job markets?

Through conversations between university representatives, students, and industry professionals, attendees were encouraged to think more critically and realistically about their own academic and professional planning.

## Strong Engagement from Students and Families

Throughout the event, participants actively engaged in discussions surrounding:

- Graduate admissions expectations

- Program fit and academic preparation

- Internship and employment opportunities in the United States

- Industry alignment for STEM programs

- Career development within Silicon Valley ecosystems

The atmosphere remained highly interactive, professional, and discussion-oriented, reflecting growing student interest in career-connected graduate education pathways.

HYP Global will continue collaborating with Santa Clara University to host additional in-person events and academic exchange opportunities in China.
